I worked on a project at Matco Tools that aimed to enable students to register on their website and take advantage of exclusive discounts while making purchases. During the registration process, students were required to upload their student ID for verification purposes. Additionally, OTP was used to further validate their identity.
I worked on the 1440 screen ( web ) and 375 screen ( mobile )
MY ROLE
SR. UI/UX DESIGNER. I was the only designer who worked on the entire project. I designed both the web and mobile views.
THE PROBLEM
There have been reports of fraudulent activities on matcotools.com. Some people register as students to obtain exclusive discounts and then sell the products on Amazon or eBay. During the account creation process, we do not require any verification to confirm that the user is a real student. They are only asked to check a box indicating that they are a student.
THE APPROACH
To solve this problem, I design a web and mobile website that requires students to enter their ID and OTP for authentication when creating an account. If they don’t upload their student ID, they won’t be eligible for the student-exclusive discount. Instead, they will only see the regular prices on the website.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Student.
RESEARCH
I researched how to verify student status for sign-up on websites such as Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Figma, Google, Samsung, and Apple.
375 SCREEN ( MOBILE )

This screen is where the user will be asked to type in their OTP code.
UPLOAD SCREEN
The page where the user will be asked to upload their school ID for verification.
STUDENT DASHBOARD SCREEN SCREEN
This is what the student dashboard will look like after verification. Students will be able to manage payments, change their address, and view their benefits.
