MATCO TOOLS CREDIT APPLICATIONS

The Matco Tools credit application allows technicians and mechanics to apply for credit on the Matco Tools website (matcotools.com). The credit can only be used on the Matco Tools website.

MY ROLE

SR. UI/UX DESIGNER. I was the only designer who worked on the entire project. I designed both the web and mobile views.

THE PROBLEM

The current application on matcotools.com was created more than 10 years ago, and it has some accessibility issues that prevent some users from performing certain tasks on the website. The team has been assigned to redesign the entire flow to ensure it meets user accessibility standards and is mobile-friendly.

THE APPROACH

The idea is to create a website that can be accessed via both desktop and mobile devices. The website will allow mechanics or technicians to input their personal information, and they will receive an immediate response indicating whether they have been approved or denied, as well as the amount for which they have been approved.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience is mechanics and technicians who are 18 or older.

RESEARCH

I conducted research with Matco Tools distributors, mechanics, and technicians to gather information about previous credit application experiences on MatcoTools.com.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1. Have you ever attempted to apply for credit on matcotools.com?

2. “How do you browse or access matcotools.com?”

3. What are the main challenges you face while trying to apply for credit on matcotools.com?

4. What are your thoughts on the look and feel of the current interface?

5. How would you rate your overall experience with the current credit application?

IMPORTANT FEADBACK FROM INTERVIEWS

1. A lot of our users access the website and apply for credit through their mobile phones.

2. The credit application available on the matcotools.com website is not optimized for mobile devices and may not display correctly on smaller screens.

3. The application is asking for an excessive amount of information.

4. The user prefers to review all the details they filled out before submitting the form.

5. Users expect to receive immediate notification of approval or denial.

USER PERSONA

375 SCREEN ( MOBILE )

GET STARTED SCREEN

This is the initial screen the user sees when clicking on “apply for credit”. We provide the user with all the necessary information to complete the credit application process.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY SCREEN

When the user enters their employment address, which in this case is their mechanic shop, we will use their zip code to check if they have a distributor. If they do have a distributor, they will be allowed to continue filling out the application. However, if they don’t have a distributor, they will not be able to proceed with the application.

TERMS & AGREEMENT

Users can modify their signature and view the date and time of their signature on the application.
